Creighton’s and UNMC’s Academy of Student Pharmacists (ASP) chapters held Legislative Days at the Capitol Building in Lincoln on March 31, 2009; there were 50 students present (40 from Creighton). Creighton’s students and faculty did cholesterol screenings, gave information on diabetes, heartburn and immunizations at the health fair.
The students were given a brief Legislative update from Joni Cover on a few important bills LB 151 (controlled substances), LB 220 (Long Term Care), and LB 341 (Public Health Agencies). Students were able to personally speak to state officials and during the floor debate the students were acknowledged by the Senators.
