James Perry, Jr., RPh, of Hampton, IL is the recipient of the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award, a national award that honors a practicing pharmacist who has developed an innovative patient care program.  One award is presented per state by the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations (NASPA).

Mr. Perry graduated from Creighton University in 1991 with a B.S. in Pharmacy.  He spent his first 6 years practicing pharmacy in a small rural hospital setting, which gave him the tools to hone his skills for providing pharmaceutical care.

In 1998, he and his wife pursued a life long dream and became business owners after purchasing District Drugs in Rock Island, Illinois.  After a year of practicing community pharmacy, Jim became frustrated with the state of “managed care”.  Having had an interest historically with compounding, an opportunity arose to pursue another dream.  Jim partnered with Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) in 1999 and began to provide sterile and non-sterile compounding services.

Today in his practice, Jim spends most of his day out in front of the counter, meeting and greeting clients as they come. Other times are spent consulting directly with physicians over the phone, and patients in a private office area. These consultations include pain management, nutrition, hormone replacement, and natural therapies.

Jim believes that by working thru the triad (patient, physician, pharmacist), patients can receive quality care with positive outcomes, often through compounding, that may not have been met by traditional pharmaceutical means.

Beyond the pharmacy, Jim finds himself lecturing to the community.  This includes continuing medical education seminars for physicians and providers or community patient education for the layperson with various healthcare interests.  Jim is currently a member of the Illinois Pharmacists Association (IPhA), National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA), and serves as a current board member of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists (IACP).

Future plans for the Rock Island pharmacist include adding vaccination services and Medication Therapy Management.
