Peer Review of Online Course Design

With the maturation of the distance education initiatives within the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions the SPAHP eLearning Committee developed the Peer Online Course Review Rubric to provide a literature-based tool for consistent, formative review of the design of SPAHP online course design. The process for conducting the peer review is as follows:

  1. The instructor of record, additional content expert, and instructional designer not involved in the design of the course comprise the peer review team.
  2. Each team member uses the SPAHP Peer Online Course Review Rubric to comment on the course prior to the team meeting. Team members only comment on the benchmarks for which they feel qualified to comment.
  3. The peer review team meets and selects a scribe to document the reviewers comments and ratings. Using their individual comments notations, the team members collaboratively review the course.
  4. The data and suggestions generated as a result of the review process is to be provided to the instructor of record to help ensure consistency in design quality.
  5. In collaboration with the course’s instructional designer, the IOR makes the changes noted by the peer review team during the team meeting.

To arrange for a peer review of the design of your online course contact the Director of the program in which your course resides or an instructional designer.
