Alumni Volunteers Needed as Standardized Patients for
Pharmacy Dispensing Lab
If interested in volunteering for the Spring 2009 semeseter, click here.
Dear SPAHP Alumni: Won’t you consider joining your fellow alumni and donate an hour or two of your time again this summer to help Creighton students learn?
The Creighton pharmacy faculty instructing in the Dispensing and Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory (PHA 486) course ask local pharmacy graduates to engage with students as standardized patients in labs. This volunteer service opportunity connects Creighton alumni and students while utilizing special skill-sets that only our healthcare professional alumni possess. Student feedback has been tremendously positive, as the impression left by the “personal touch” of alumni taking time out their busy schedules to contribute to the student’s learning is a lasting one.
The time commitment for each session is about 90 minutes. A minimum of six (6) volunteers are needed for each of the lab sessions at the times listed in the form below. The format of these lab activities will have each third year pharmacy student role-play a pharmacist and provide patient counseling to you, the “patient,” who in turn assesses the student’s performance (using a satisfactory/unsatisfactory/excellent scale) on a standardized checklist.
We hope you will consider signing up to volunteer as your schedule allows. We are so grateful for the overwhelming generosity of the Creighton alumni who have volunteered their time and expertise as standardized patients in the Dispensing Lab thus far. For a listing of past alumni volunteers, click here. If you have any questions about the volunteer program or the PHA 486 course specifically, please do not hesitate to contact us using the information below. About a week before the lab, volunteers will be sent a packet of information about the lab, including parking and check-in information.
