The post-professional OTD distance curriculum consists of 47 semester hours of required didactic course work. The program permits distance learners access to required course work through web-based technology, print, videotape, and CD-ROM. Courses are asynchronous and are available online 24-hours, 7 days a week for the convenience of the working professional.
In addition to didactic courses, students engage in 16 semester credit hours of professional rotations which offer students the opportunity to extend and refine knowledge acquired in the didactic curriculum. The professional rotation component of the curriculum is tailored to each individual based on the student's self-assessment of professional competencies. Students may elect to enhance generalist clinical skills or select a focused area for professional study. Whenever possible, professional rotations will be arranged at practice sites in the student's geographic region.
Accepted students may begin the post-professional OTD distance program during any fall or spring semester that POTD 500 is offered.

At the Creighton University Medical Center 2006 Commencement, Fr. John P. Schlegel, S.J., Creighton University President stated, "Your professors have challenged you to be leaders in your professions. As a student, you were expected to go beyond the ordinary to achieve the extraordinary. Your patients will expect no less of you. Do not disappoint them. Ethics, service, and excellence: These three words have been consistent across the 127 years of Creighton's existence; they serve as the foundation for what we do today. You will carry these with you; they are marks of a Creighton health care professional."
Heather Goertz, OTD, assistant professor, collaborated with the Omaha Street School (OSS) and received a $1,000 grant from the Omaha Community Foundation's Youth in Philanthropy award to implement a program - Tea for Teens: Women in Leadership - to develop leadership skills in young women attending the OSS.
