The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions welcomes applications from international students. In order to receive full consideration, applicants must begin the application process at least nine months prior to the desired term of entry.
Previous Studies in the United States or Canada
International students are advised that the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions prefers to admit students who have taken at least a portion of the prerequisite courses at a regionally accredited institution in the United States or Canada. Those currently living in the U.S. or Canada are encouraged to complete appropriate pre-professional and/or supporting coursework in the U.S. or Canada.
Educational Credential Evaluation
Candidates for admission from foreign countries must present original and complete educational credentials. Certified transcripts bearing seals and original signatures must be sent directly to the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions from institutions of higher education in other countries. Since this process is frequently time consuming, documentation should be requested at an early date. Photocopies are not accepted.
Students who have not completed education in the U.S. are required to submit a course-by-course evaluation from an organization experienced in the evaluation process. The commonly used evaluation services are as follows:
English Language Competency
The ability to speak and write correct grammatical English is imperative. This is essential to ensure academic progress and enable the applicant to communicate clearly with patients and other health care professionals.
International applicants whose first language is not English must present a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 80 on the internet-based test (iBT) which is equivalent to 214 on the computer-based test (CBT) and 550 on the paper-based test (PBT). Applicants should use the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions code of 6126.
In addition to a strong score on the TOEFL, other evidence of proficiency in English may include letters of recommendation from employers for professors, grades in English language courses, and the personal interview.
At the Creighton University Medical Center 2006 Commencement, Fr. John P. Schlegel, S.J., Creighton University President stated, "Your professors have challenged you to be leaders in your professions. As a student, you were expected to go beyond the ordinary to achieve the extraordinary. Your patients will expect no less of you. Do not disappoint them. Ethics, service, and excellence: These three words have been consistent across the 127 years of Creighton's existence; they serve as the foundation for what we do today. You will carry these with you; they are marks of a Creighton health care professional."
