Faculty Research and Scholarship

We have a broad and diverse range of research and scholarly interests active in our faculty.  In general, four major areas of research are pursued within the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.  You can view more details on the Annual Research Report page.

Here is a brief explanation of each area:

Clinical Research

This is the study of drugs, biologics or devices in human subjects with the intent to discover potential beneficial effects and/or determine its safety and efficacy.  This is also referred to as clinical study and clinical investigation.

Biomedical Sciences Research

Research that addresses mechanisms that underlie the formation and function of living organisms, ranging from the study of single molecules to complex integrated functions of humans, contributes profoundly to our knowledge of how disease, trauma, or genetic defects alter normal physiological and behavioral processes.  Molecular, cellular, and systems-level processes are all subjects of research.

Educational Research

This is the systematic gathering of empirical information to answer questions related to education.

Health Services Research

Health services research is the multidisciplinary field of scientific investigation that studies how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, health technologies, and personal behaviors affect outcomes, access to health care, the quality and cost of health care, and ultimately our health and well-being.  Its research domains are individuals, families, organizations, institutions, communities, and populations.
