Faculty Development Program

The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Office of Research has been hosting a faculty development series on Research Methodology / Research Case Presentations. 

This series is jointly offered with the support of the SPAHP Office of Faculty Development and the SPAHP Office of Research.

  • An overview and review of application of research paradigms, methodologies, methods and techniques, importance of research worldviews, paradigms, disciplinarities.

Mixed Methods Reviewed
  • Mixed methods have gained recognition as an approach to studying complex research questions.  A review of differing designs, methods, analytic approaches, strengths, and limitations will be covered.

Qualitative Method Review and Analysis Workshop
  • This workshop's featured presenter is Dr. Joan Norris, PhD, RN, FAAN, who will share the methodology of grounded theory through her exemplar accomplished works with the concept of body reimaging of patients who experience disfigurements.  Dr. Kim Galt will provide the overview of remaining methodologies, including case studies, ethnography and phenomenology.  Following the review, she and Dr. Norris will guide groups through the principles of data preparation, coding and analysis.  Hands on practice with sample data will take place from Dr. Galt's grounded theory work on interdisciplinary research teams.  Mr. Ted Kasha will provide a brief overview about qualitative coding and analysis software products.

Text Analysis Workshop
  • The principles and methods of text analysis will be presented.  Hands on practice with a data set will take place.

Consultations will be offered between 2 and 4pm (pre-registration is required)
