Biography:
Dr. DeSimone received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Temple University in Philadelphia. His area of study in graduate school focused on education theory and educational psychology with an emphasis on pharmacy continuing education.
Licensed as a pharmacist in three states, he has worked in both community and hospital practice. He also served as an OTC panel consultant to the FDA. He currently serves as a reviewer for five profession journals and is a Contributing Editor and member of the Editorial Advisory Board for U.S. Pharmacist. Dr. DeSimone has written more than 40 professional papers and has chapters in three textbooks including Applied Therapeutics: The Clinical Use of Drugs, Patient Assessment in Pharmacy Practice, and the Handbook of Nonprescription Drugs (having served as one of the editors for two editions). He is also a sought-after speaker on such diverse topics as addiction, communication skills, medication errors, and nonprescription drugs especially sunscreens.
Dr. DeSimone is a member of the Section of Teachers of Pharmacy Practice of AACP, a member of the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management of APhA as well as a long-time delegate to the APhA House of Delegates. Dr. DeSimone serves as the pharmacy representative to the Nebraska Patient Safety Coalition and is a member of it's board of directors. He is a member of the Nebraska Pharmacists Association and a past member of the Board of Directors.
Dr. DeSimone holds a certificate in family ministry from Creighton University and has worked in this area for many years. His personal interests include photography, gardening, and playing basketball. He is a soccer referee (for over 25 years) and instructor working youth and men’s leagues, high school, and college. He has been married to his wife, Sandy, for 37 years, and has three children, Ed, Lauren, and Michelle. He is also the proud grandfather of two grandson's: Aaron and Jacob.
